Hello my lovelies. First, I would like to start by wishing you all very happy new year. I’m sure 2018 will be full of great things for each and every one of us.
The first thing I did this morning when I opened my eyes was be thankful that 2017 was over and done with. I must admit that I was really pleased to be bright eyed and bushy tailed after a very good nights sleep. I had a very quiet New Years eve in the comfort of my own home. I watched some mindless television and had a glass of wine. So, there was no hangover for me this morning; the best way to start a new year.
Today I decided to be kind to myself. I did a few simple jobs, a bit of tidying up, some stitchery work and some easy peasy cooking. Here’s a little peek at the stitchery work …..
As in previous years, I plan on carrying on my volunteer work for Quilts for Comfort. I have a few quilt tops I plan on turning into proper quilts over the next few weeks. I’ve recently been working on another little challenge which consists of bonding squares for St. Thomas Hospital in London. I’ve knitted my simple 5” squares using DK yarn ….
This is something I can do in the evening while watching mindless TV shows. I’m sure I’m not the only person who needs to do something while watching TV.
My few Christmas decorations have been taken down and stored away for another year. My house is looking a little lacklustre now that all the twinkle has been removed. I’ll have to swap my quilts around to brighten the place up.
I haven’t written my To-Do List for the year yet. I do have a few goals and plenty of dreams. I guess I’ll start with finishing a few UFOs and we’ll see what comes next.
I finally finished painting my sewing room yesterday. This week I’m going to put the room back together in a different order. I need to purchase some new and different storage units in order to make everything a little more user friendly. The room looks fresh and bright. I purchased some fabric in a sale recently for curtains. Perhaps that will be tomorrows job.
Today has been a great start to the new year. I did a few easy jobs. It was a pleasure to sit quietly doing some stitchery work while binge watching the box set of Big Little Lies. If you haven’t watched it yet and it’s available to you, do watch it. It’s got a bit of everything in it. I won’t spoil it for you by telling you what it’s about. I found it very satisfying to watch.
On this first day of the new year, I’ll leave you with a quote I came across recently ….. There are far better things ahead than any we leave behind ~ CS Lewis. I quite like this quote ♥
So, for this evening this very happy and super ambitious quilt maker will be doing some English Paper Piecing. I hope you all have a super cosy evening doing something relaxing. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching ♥ ♥
Happy New year. I’ve decided to take the plunge and start a blog this year as I think I need to learn how to do something new. If you have any advice I’d love to hear from you. Every good wish for 2018
Hi Mary,
I don’t have much advice about blogging. I just take as many photos as I can. I find posts are more interesting accompanied by photos. Just be your creative self and you’ll be successful. Please let me know when you have launched. Good luck and don’t let technology beat you. Thanks for popping in x
Happy New year Lucie, I hope it brings all lovely things. I am like you, cannot watch TV unless I sew (E.P.P). I look forward to seeing what you make this year!
Hi Kath, busy hands happy heart. Happy new year to you and yours. Thanks for popping in x
Happy New Year, Lucie. I hope 2018 brings you much joy and contentment, continued good health and some finished UFOs. I’m retiring in July and am really looking forward to tackling some of my UFOs, that’s for sure. xxx
Hi Maree, it’s lovely to hear from you. I bet you can’t wait to retire. Working full time gets in the way of crafting and sewing. My UFOs are screaming at me but I just can’t work fast enough. Happy new year to you and yours Maree. Thanks for popping in x
A very happy, healthy, peaceful New Year for you and your daughter, Lucie.
Just look up and follow your nose, and keep moving. You will be surprised where it leads you. lol

Hi Joanna,
I’ve got people in Montreal and they tell me it’s so so cold. I remember how cold it gets in winter. I moan that its cold her in England but it never gets as cold as in Montreal. So I really have nothing to moan about. Happy new year to you and yours Joanna. Thanks for popping in x
Happy new year. I really enjoyed reading your post, it felt gentle and kind. I think sometimes people run at a new year firing on all cylinders, I prefer to relax into it now without making ridiculous demands and changes that I rarely through on for long. x
Hi Kay, my post felt gentle because my way of life has changed to something simpler and quieter. There’s no point in me making ridiculous demands that I know I won’t follow thru on. I know life is meant for living but I think living a quiet life is what I’m most interested in nowadays. Thanks for popping in x
Happy New Year Lucie. I always love reading your blogs, you are very industrious, love seeing your handiwork. Love Julie x

Hi Lucy, Wishing you and Sarah a very special “Happy New Year”, good health & happiness! I’ve just been reading your post, always find you so inspiring and a breath of fresh air! I’m interested in the knitted squares for St. Thomas hospital, I’ve looked up on the web- site, “thank you” for mentioning this, I will get clicking the kneedles, this is a super way of bringing mum & baby together, not heard of this before. I have knitted hats for the neo-natal unit in Durham County hospital, and have recently purchased some new yarn to get clicking this New Year. So! I will now pick up my knitting needles which are in the basket by my side, and it will resist me from eating delicious chocolate! Take care, keep warm, best regards from: Freda X

Hi Freda, I’m so pleased that your knitting needles are clicking for St Thomas Hospital. I think it’s a great cause which most of us can help with quite easily. It’s lovely to hear from you Freda. I hope you’re all well and I wish you and yours all the best that 2018 has to offer. Oh and Freda, I think a little chocolate is good for the soul now and again. Thanks for popping in xx
Happy New Year, Lucie! looking forward to reading more from you.

Happy New Year Lucie. I’m a little late, due to visitors, who have now flown back to the UK. Look forward to seeing what 2018 brings for you and the completion of some of the UFO’s. Take care.
Hi Susan, I’m pleased you had UK visitors. It’s never too late to catch up. 2018 is going to be an interesting year for all of us x
Love those quilts in your photos, they look lovely! I’m hoping to finish some UFOs and make some new quilts, too. Happy New Year to you as well! 😊
Hi Daisy Garden, I’m a bit bored of working on UFOs but I’m going to persevere. When I move onto new project it will be a pleasure to work on something new. Thanks for popping in x
