I am passionate about patchwork and quilting. I started piecing quilts back in 1994 when I signed up for a City & Guilds class. And things just took off from there. At first I just pieced quilts for hand quilting. 15 years ago I invested in a longarm quilting system so most of my quilts are machine quilted now.
Quite recently I have started making quilts that I can Freemotion Quilt using my domestic machine. I started learning to Freemotion Quilt about 8 years ago and worked out the best way to approach the task. Nowadays I pass on all the best tips and secrets of Freemotion Quilting when I’m out and about with other like-minded people. I think everyone should have a go a Freemotion Quilting; there’s nothing nicer than to be able to say that you’ve made a quilt from choosing fabrics right thru to hand finishing the binding. It’s such an accomplishment.
I was born and raised in Canada. I moved to the northeast of England in 1993. My mother who still lives in Canada was a very important influence on my creativity. She took up quiltmaking in the 1970s but I didn’t take much notice then as I was a teenager. It’s only when I moved to England and needed something to fill the blank hours that I took up this quiet gentle craft. As a child, there was always plenty of crafting supplies in our house so I suppose that’s where my lifelong love affair with all things handmade started. My creativity genes came from my super crafty mom. Thanks mom for all the encourgement. 🙂
Looking good

Wow! I just discovered your blog! I’m a “new” blogger, only starting about 2 months ago. I’m an avid quilter (13 yrs), and didn’t know whether I wanted to blog about quilting or photography or other random stuff… so I’m combining it all. I just spent 1 1/2 hrs on your blog reading, checking out links and admiring. I’ve never been on another quilt blog until yours. Very nice! I ned more time, though! I’ll be frequenting your blog, as well as your links and blogroll. Fascinating reading!
Thanks for the positive feedback. Your blog will be quite interesting if you’re combining quilting, photography and plenty of random stuff. Thank you for stopping in and having a read. I hope to hear from you again soon.
Lucie,
I don’t know if you “accept” awards however, I just wanted to let you know I have nominated you for the Versatile Blogger Award! You can read more about it here: http://lovinlifeonadirtroad.wordpress.com/2012/12/30/happy-belated-birthday-to-me/ and see what you need to do if you wish to accept. 🙂 I do love reading your blog. 🙂 ~ Carol
Thank you for nominating me. I’m flattered you like my blog.
Carol
Thank you so much for the nomination. I’m really glad you enjoy reading about my daily antics.
Hi Lucie,
So glad I found my way to your blog and to meet another free motion quilter. Though my brand new blog is mostly about my foray into painting, I have been quilting for over 30 years and long arm quilting for 8. I will enjoy investigating your site.
Enjoy. Thank you for popping in today.
Hi Lucie, I wanted to ask you some advice regarding longarm machines. Which one do you use and do you quilt professionally for people on it? I have been offered the possibility of purchasing a huge nolting longarm machine from the only person locally who longarm quilts professionally. She is having to sadly give up for health reasons and so there is a huge opportunity in the making! I thought I’d ask you as I love reading your blog and know you much have an opinion on these things! Thanks in advance, Suzy

It’s a pleasure.
Just wanted you to know that I nominated you for the WordPress Family Award. Here’s a link if you want to accept http://tamaraeckstadt.wordpress.com/2013/05/08/wordpress-family-award/ I hope you’ll at least visit and see what I said about you! Thanks, Lucie!
Thank you for your very kind words. I’m very flattered to be nominated.
I’m very happy I found you on WordPress!
Great Blog! Very inspirational! I think i did your journey in reverse. I am a Brit (south east England) who married a Canadian and moved to Canada (Whitby, Ontario) 6 years ago and became a longarmer! Lol
It seems we have a lot in common. It’s a small world. Thanks for popping in today Allie.
I enjoy your blog. I like fun loving people who let life itself be a pleasure and you seem to be one of those people. I do have a question about some of your projects. Some things appear to have been appliqued by the longarm. Have you tried that or am I seeing what I want to see.? I like to try new things and know people are doing applique on the longarm now. I like quilting a lot but I am not true to the traditional methods.
Yes Jean, I did some raw edge applique using my longarm. It was great fun. Thank you for your kinds words. Please do visit again.
