Hi Lucy, I thought you had gone to ground as I have not received any updates this week, looks like your gremlins must have wiped off my E-mail from your files, anyway, have registered with you again just in case. Christine
On your dresdon block you said you appliqued it by hand ? what color did you use. I am in the process right now of making dresdons with all different colors and am wondering what color I will use to stitch them all down.
I used a 100weight thread that disappears. I used a neutral thread. If the thread is fine it simply disappears especially if you make tiny stitches. Good luck. And send me a photo when you’re done.
Hi there – just love your relaxed approach to quilting. I have just purchased a long arm and would love some advice about how you keep your quilts square – it looks like you float your quilts? Do you stabilise at all or stitch top and sides as you quilt? Would also be interested in any advice you have regarding the tautness of your quilt on the machine. Thank you.
Hi Lucie, just enjoying catching up on your posts as I have been away for a few days! I love Rachel’s disappearing 9patch quilt – and the fabric is gorgeous. Of course your bag and Dresden table runner are just beautiful, thanks for inspiring us – have a great day!
Hi Lucie, what a beautiful site you have here! I have not attempted quilting or patchwork yet, but I am fixing that right now!! So I think I will be a big follower of your blog, and hope to learn loads … if that is ok? xx
Hi Lucie,
I have just discovered your blog. My parents were born in Canada and named me Lucie with the ie ending also. I am a quilting instructor and long arm quilter. The similarities were so amazing I had to tell you.
Thank you,
Lucie
Now that Stitching heaven is closing is there any chance I could do an oval Dresden with you before they finish or somewhere else afterwards. I did the cathedral Windows cushion recently and really enjoyed it
Hi Lucie! I am a hand sewer only and I’m hoping for a little bit of advice. My friend just started his long arm quilting business out here in WA state after a few years working at the local shop that closed. He purchased on of her machines and is happy as a clam. I’d like to make him something useful for Christmas, maybe something to wrap around part of the long arm to hold bits and bobs? Or something else? Do you have any suggestions, or a direction to point me in? Or maybe one of your avid readers has a suggestion? Thank you!
As a longarm quilter myself I would say you could make some kind of pocket unit that could hold all the important tools we need to keep at our fingertips when we’re doing a job. The pockets could be velcroed to the belly pole or side of the frame. I don’t have anything like that but I think it might be useful. I hope that helps you a little bit hanks for popping in.
Hi. I have just found you.I live in the North East of England as well and it will be lovely to follow your trips to places I did not know about. I wasn’t aware of the Cotton Tree until today. I hope I can let you know of some places too. I am off to near Durham today to see a little quilt show.
You certainly have some talent and I look forward to learning some new skills with you
Thanks Linda
I hope you enjoy your little quilt show today. Let me know how you liked it. A trip to the Cotton Tree is definitely worthwhile. Have a great bank holiday weekend Linda. I hope to hear from you again.
Hi Lucie
I have been looking for the PDF or instructions for your chisel quilt pattern as I love it best. But I have not been able to find any instructions. Perhaps you can just give me directions on what my cuts should be; I don’t have a die cut machine and just cant seem to figure out the angles. =/ Thank you.
Hi Lucy, haven’t read the blog for a while so thought i’d have a quick catch up. If you are stuck for UFO’s I appear to have at least 6 all started in 2009. I can happily donate some to your list! I was saying I need to finish some before I start anymore however last night I found a pattern I’d lost but want to do for Eve let’s just see which calls me first tonight! Hope your well, Sheila.
Hi Sheila, I don’t need any more UFOs. I have unearthed move since I posted my list. Sarah and I are both well but still awaiting to sort out the legal side of my divorce. Things do drag on when only one party is co-operative. Keep chipping away at your UFOs and you’ll soon finish them. With every project we finish we’re making history Don’t forget to label your projects. Thanks for popping in today Sheila x
Hi Charlotte, thanks for popping in today. he been pretty busy looking after family matters. Rest assured that Sarah and I are well and in good spirits x
I was on Pinterest looking at one of your quilts. The comment said “the quilt design is “Splat”. My question is what is the purpose of the two shiny white poles laying beside the two bars. I have noticed this before and wonder what the purpose is. Thank you. Marilou Spears. ms@mikrotec.com.
Hi Marilou, that’s just the design of my quilting frame. The extra “shiny white poles” keep the quilt layers feeding thru smoothly. Thanks for popping in x
