Hellooooo my lovelies. I hope you’re all enjoying autumn. We experienced our first morning frost this week. It was lovely and fresh with true blue skies that particular morning. Maisie and I both enjoyed our morning stroll.
The last few weeks have been pretty busy doing one thing and another. I can’t even remember what and or if I accomplished much of anything to be honest. The painting and decorating continues. It’s a job I dislike and of course it drags on and on once you get started. Sarah and I are doing it ourselves hence the length of time it’s taking. One thing is for sure, it will be so nice when it’s finished. We’ve chosen some interesting colours and we are also in the process of repurposing furniture which will be moved around to suit as needed. It’s rather nice stamping our own personality to our home. We’re keeping it simple but it’s going to be a little more girly than it has ever been. And why not!!!
I have been working furiously on a UFO which I finished last week. I call it the Sweet Dresden Lollipop quilt. Here are a few sneaky peeks of my sweet project …..
I very rarely use white as a background because I find it too stark. In this project, I finally succumbed to using white. Well the effect is striking but I love it. So, you can bet I will be using white more often. I have several metres of plain white which I have had in my stash for a good long while that I could use in the next project. So, I better start designing the next project.
I’ve disappeared into my sewing room last week with a small selection of fat quarters. I needed a short sharp fix of sewing. I needed to choose a small useful project that would give me a sewing fix. So, I chose to make a notebook cover for my 2018 notebook …..
Some simple sewing was just what I needed to distract from all the drying paint around me.
I attended my monthly Burnopfield Belles meeting last week. I handed in my prepared block as promised …..
We all went home with homework last month and so a variety of blocks were handed in ready to be joined together using the quilt as you go method sometime in the new year. As a treat to us volunteers, Sandra lead a crafty session. Sandra guided us thru the steps of making this lovely Christmas card …..
It’s amazing what we can make with a few scraps of fabric and card blanks. I came away from the session feeling very accomplished and having had a good fun afternoon.
Life has definitely moved on for the likes of me and my Sarah recently. Every day is becoming more positive. Things are settling down and falling into place rather nicely. Sarah is doing well in uni and I’m finally finding my feet again. I read a quote yesterday that gave me something to think about. Live less out of habit and more out of intent ~ Amy Rubin Flett. I’m still working on my To Be List. So far, I have accomplished being useful and being kind. And I’m going to keep trying to be the rest of my list.
My main goal whenever I post something is to inspire others to try new things and/or get on with their existing projects. You know the old saying what goes around comes around ….. well that saying is very true. My friend Lynne popped in earlier this week and she brought me some sock wool. A couple of weeks ago, when the autumn weather truly set in I had a hankering to start knitting. My tools were ready to be used but the wool was sadly lacking. The same evening of Lynne’s visit, I casted on the appropriate number of stitches and got started. The morale of my story is that inspiration goes round and round. We get together and spur each other on to start and finish projects. Both my socks are ready for me to start knitting the heel. I wouldn’t have gotten that far if it wasn’t for Lynne’s generous nudge in the right direction. Sometimes a little nudge is all we need to move forward. These are my Christmas socks. I can’t wait to wear them.
So, for this evening this very happy and super ambitious quilter will be doing some EPP work. My Patchwork of the Crosses is progressing nicely but nowhere near finished. It’s not a race as long as I am enjoying the process that’s all that matters. I hope you all have a super cosy evening doing something you thoroughly enjoy. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching ♥ ♥
So nice to hear all of your news Lucie – glad to hear life is going your way! Thanks for inspiring me to continue with my photographic quilt of my 13 year old granddaughters life – I didn’t do anything yesterday and was just sitting here watching rubbish TV when your blog popped into my inbox and now the sewing machine is ready to go again
Good luck and an early Happy Christmas from me as we will be in Australia with one of our daughters and her family – in fact all of us from the U.K. are off to visit her for Christmas and it will be the first time we’ve all been together for Christmas for 12 years – can’t wait!!
Regards
Jackie xx
Hi Jackie, it’s lovely to hear from you. How excited you must be to be going off to Australia to be with your daughter and hers for Christmas. There’s nothing better than being with family for Christmas. All good things come to those who wait. I’m pleased to hear that you’ve resumed work on your granddaughters photographic quilt. I’m sure she will treasure it. Thanks for popping in today Jackie xx
Your Dresden Lollipop looks lovely from what I can see. You’ve been a busy girl of late, but great to see a post pop up. I really must give sock knitting a go with the four needles, as yes, I can knit & have done since learning at age 4, but never really tried socks. Hope Jackie above enjoys her trip to Oz, but she’ll sure find our weather different at Xmas than what she is use to. Have a super weekend Lucie & take care.
Hi Susan, I’ll be posting more of my Sweet Dresden Lollipop. I didn’t have anyone to hold it up for me. It’s not a huge quilt but it takes three people to photographic properly. I’m really pleased that Jackie is going to visit her family in Oz. I have no doubt it will be a very different Christmas but most likely the best Christmas in a long time because it’s different. Thanks so much for popping in Susan xx
I loved your update. So glad all is well.
My Patchwork of the Crosses is still very much a work in progress also. I hope to have it done for next year’s horticultural show but am already starting to wonder! 😉
Hi Sandy, you keep working at your Patchwork of the Crosses project. Enjoy every minute and you’ll soon see it grow into something beautiful. Thanks for popping Sandy xx
Hi Lucie, lovely to hear from you again and I love the socks, do you know about the wool shop in Felton? It is called Fine Fettle Fibres and is upstairs in Gallery 45, just up from the running fox. She has some fab rare breed wools, really great shop, you would of it!
Christine
Hi Christine, I did not know that there was a special wool shop in Felton. I must make my way up there and have a little look. The name alone makes it sound very interesting. Thanks for popping in today Christine xx
Hi Lucie, very glad that you and Sarah, are doing things the way ye like.
I detest painting so can understand the delay.
I needed that quote right now.
Looking forward to seeing your quilt. I’m not too fond of
white in a quilt. I guess it’s more suitable for the minimalist home.
Mine is most definitely not that. (lol).
Enjoy knitting the socks will definitely go well with your boots.
Keep cozy and warm as the winter fast approaches.
Hi Sheila, it’s lovely to hear from you. I think my friend Lynne brought the red multi colour wool to go with my new boots!!! And it does match nicely. By the way up until recently my home was definitely not minimalist. I’m thinking of hanging my Sweet Dresden Lollipop in my sewing room where it will reflect beautiful light onto my ongoing work. I’ve decided that I’m going to make a few more projects using white background just to make a change. The sun is about to go down and you can winter in the air. I’m enjoying wearing my cosy woollies. Thanks for popping in today Sheila xx
This is such a happy, positive post. x
Hi Kay, thank you for your very kind words. I try to keep my posts light and positive. It makes me feel better when I find something positive to end the day with. Thanks for popping in today xx
Hi Lucie, Fine Fettle Fibres is only open Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. She has a web site which is very good and also a news letter you can sign up t. If you are going specially, give her a ring first in case she is not open, as she says, life sometimes gets in the way! But she has some beautiful wool from small suppliers and lovely patterns, everything you could imagine. Not a huge place but well worth a visit, also has a knit and natter with coffee and scrum my home made cake, worth the tori itself!
Hi Christine, thanks for that info. I would like a new little project for the Christmas hols. Perhaps some nice wool for a small project would be nice. Thanks for popping in xx
Lovely to read your blog knowing you are moving forward together…….. ………will give sock knitting a try…keep putting it off but will make the effort because you did!!!! Thanks for the nudge…I will pass a nudge on to someone else too!!,,take care x
Hi Jill,it’s great to hear from you. I think you’ll enjoy knitting socks. They knit up quickly which makes it a satisfying pursuit. Nudge away. Thanks for popping in today Jill x
