Posts Tagged ‘Suggestions for the quilt maker who has everything’

Hello my lovelies. I hope you’ve all enjoyed a superb weekend. I’ve attended a sewing event and done some Christmas shopping. I’m just adding the finishing touches. I’m looking forward to the big day arriving.

Now let’s get down to business. Most of you will have read that I have been contacted by a gentleman trying to work out what to get his quilt maker wife for Christmas. They have been married for forty-four years!!! And this year Mr. X doesn’t know what to get Mrs. X for Christmas. So here, in no specific order, are some of the suggestions that have come in over the last couple of days.

I, of course, suggested a long weekend quilt retreat. Sandy suggested a voucher/gift certificate for food to be delivered ready to eat so Mrs. X wouldn’t have to cook while she’s busy sewing.

Monica suggested new smart storage to keep Mrs. X fabric stash and tools neat and tidy or perhaps topping up her stash of backing fabric and/or batting. All very useful.

Sandra suggested starting or adding to Mrs. X pincushion collection. I particularly like that one but only because I like small collections of sewing tools and I hoard.

Jackie suggested a nice book but also was wondering if this man has a couple of thoughtful brothers for us to befriend!

Karen suggested a subscription to a crafty magazine. Excellent idea.

Susan suggested a full body massage to get Mrs. X ready to start the new year refreshed. A day at the Spa sounds an excellent idea to me.

Claire agreed with my idea of a weekend quilt retreat. A girl after my own heart!!!

Helen suggested a roll of batting, thread set or magazine subscription.  And Mary suggested that Mr. X do something to make Mrs. X sewing room more attractive and user friendly.

I would be very happy with any of these suggestions as my Christmas gift. I send out a big thank you to all the ladies who took the time to comment in order to send their suggestion.

I can’t believe how the days have just been melting one into the next. It seems not that long ago we were celebrating the arrival of 2016. Now we’re about to celebrate the arrival of the next!!!

Are you ready for Christmas? Are you still schlepping around the shops looking for gifts and have no idea where to start? I was like that last week. This year my shopping list is much shorter than in other years but no less a dilemma. Note to self; start working on Christmas in June. We put so much pressure on ourselves to make everything perfect. I for one know that perfect doesn’t exist. All we can do is our best and hope that our best is good enough for everyone. As far as I’m concerned, it’s not about the presents we give each other, it’s more about the way we treat each other all year round.

I usually pick a project to work on during the holidays but this year I haven’t even considered it. I don’t want to start a new project so I think I’ll concentrate on my Patchwork of the Crosses. For today my goals were to wrap a few presents, tidy up the tinsel strewn all over the floor in my living room, make a nice evening meal and perhaps step out to run an errand. I did all that and managed to finish a UFO. Way back in the spring I used up a few scraps from my apple core quilt. Back them I made quick work of piecing a few strips together to form this little quilt top.

This afternoon I added some extremely simple embellishment consisting of sewing some lace onto the already quilted top. And then went on to turning the little quilt top in a notebook cover. So now my first 6-month notebook for 2017 is ready to be used. I certainly did not expect to be finishing that today. It wasn’t even on my To-Do List!

So, for this evening, this very happy and super ambitious quilt maker will be choosing a new hand sewing project and finishing off the toe part of a sock. I hope you have a super cosy evening doing something Christmassy. Until you read me again,

Happy stitching ♥ ♥
