Hello my lovelies. I hope you’ve been enjoying the run up to Christmas. I’ve been busy with this that and the other. I seem to be running in circles up to last weekend. The best part of Christmas is that we can go off the clock for a couple of weeks and breathe. We can eat and sleep and be merry as much or as little as we like. I’ll be doing some simple baking, some traditional cooking and generally mooching about.
It’s at this time of year that I look back on the year gone by. I must admit that there have been some trying times, some days that I thought would never end. Well October was the best month of 2017. I have put the past in the past and started looking forward to 2018. I have a lot of work to do to put myself on the right path to a good fulfilling future. Slowly but surely Sarah and I are working our way to the path of a good life.
As I look back over the past year I realise that I have learned to dance in the cold rain. I’ve learned to sing like nobody’s listening. I’ve learned to make delicious lemonade when all life handed me was sour lemons. And best of all, I learned to piece the most beautiful quilts with leftover scraps after the storm of discard. Today I’m smiling because thru the difficult times I found out who really loves me. I found out who my true friends are … they’re the ones who waited for me when I crossed the finish line I thought I’d never reach.
My favourite finish of the year is my Sweet Dresden Lollipop quilt …
This has been a very satisfying project to work on. Seeing something you’ve designed come to fruition is fabulous.
I have another project I started designing about a year ago for which I still have plenty of drawings to complete before it starts coming together. I did make a start on appliqueing some of the blocks …..
I’m still working on my Patchwork of the Crosses but the end is in sight now. I started working on this quilt a little over a year ago. It’s been my go to project, my solace when I needed comfort. I will soon have to find another go to project when this one is finished.
I’ve repurposed furniture, something I would like to do more of. I have the perfect outdated furniture that would suit a splash of chalk paint and glasses handles …..
I’ve spent time with like-minded ladies learning and working on quilts for Quilts for Comfort. It’s quite fulfilling knowing that every stitch you make will go toward bringing a young person comfort at possibly the very worst time of their life.
I found it difficult to find motivation to put up a few Christmas decorations this year. Well I finally did it a few days ago. Here’s a little peek at a few festive things in my living room. And since I put my few decks out the Christmas spirit is filling my soul. The children in my area broke up from school today. I have no doubt they’re overflowing with Christmas spirit.
So now that the children have broken up from school and Christmas is only a couple of days away, it’s time for me to roll up the draw bridge and quietly celebrate. The new year is just around the corner and all my better tomorrows are unfolding one by one.
So, for this evening, this very happy and super ambitious quilt maker will be working on the Patchwork of the Crosses quilt some more. My Sarah and I will enjoy the quiet moments and appreciate life as it comes. I hope you all have a super cosy festive evening. Until you read me again,
I wish you all a super holiday.
Happy stitching ♥ ♥
And a very Happy Christmas to you too! ☺ May 2018 see you grow into your ambitions ☺

Hello there you two, I think that you have been enormously ambitious and I see a lot of Canadian touches in the decs. I must say that the lollipop Quilt is so beautiful, you are an amazing designer. From one to another, lol. By the way, I have just bought a Singer. Wish me luck!!!! Now listen softly.
You are and will do well. This new year will be your first step out of the door and into the sun and you will not believe the amazing things that will come to you. Good quilt idea,, yes? I wish you sun in your home, joy at your door and love in your heart.
All the blessings of Christmas, and only the very very best for the New Year.
Sincerely, Joanna xxx (montreal) by the way, it is snowing for you.
Hi Joanna, I bet you’re not too thrilled with receiving more snow. I heard you supposed to get more on Christmas day! It definitely won’t be a white Christmas here in my little corner of the northeast of England.
I tend to agree with you that 2018 is going to be an amazing year. My heart is already full of love, I’ll just wait for the sun and the joy to arrive. By-the-way, my home is full of Canadian touches. All the best to you Joanna. Thank you for your kind words of encouragement x

Some years ago, when I was going through a dark time, a friend gave me a poster with the words” when life gives you lemons, make lemonade” , and that lemonade has become sweeter and sweeter with time. I hope 2018 will add some honey to your life and sweeten your days. A happy and peaceful Christmas to you and Sarah, and thanks for your words this year. All blessings to you both

Thank you for sharing such a lovely, thoughtful post Lucie. This year has been difficult, but the greatest part for me was finding your blog. You have given me the strength and inspiration to carry on through my difficult times with my disabilities and bereavements, and I truly thank you from the bottom of my heart for that Lucie. I wish you and your precious Sarah a very Merry Christmas and hope that 2018 is filled with happiness, success and creativity. You deserve every success, and I look forward to reading your blog next year. 🙂

Thank you for your inspiration to finish 17projects this year. I finished 13 of my own and did the finishing touches of all round binding on 4 others, so I sort of made target, with four of my own to start my to do list for 2018.

Hi Eileen, All the best to you and yours in the coming year. It’s going to be a good one x
Just did a quick catchup read & although Christmas is over, I enjoyed the post. Your quilts are gorgeous & I also have an idea about quirky chests of drawers & have collected quite a few images. Hope you’ve had a lovely Christmas & are ready to celebrate the New Year. Take care & huggles.
Hi Susan, I hope you’ve all had a fab Christmas. I’m quite sure you have loads of new projects on your To-Do List for 2018. Inspiration surrounds us. How can we help but be creative. All the best to you and yours for 2018 x
Hi Lucie I found this a very emotional post to read and just summarised the journey you have been on ! I hope you and Sarah had a wonderful Christmas and wish you both well on your journey into 2018 x the lollipop quilt is wonderful! Catch up soon Heather x
Hi Heather, Sarah and I had a fab Christmas. There was no strain and especially no walking on eggshells. My turkey was moist and succulent and the veg was done to a turn. I guess that’s what happens when there’s no stress to perform. The only thing missing was a little snow. I look forward to all the good things 2018 has in store for all of us. All the best to you and yours x
