Hello my lovelies. I hope you’ve all been enjoying the spring weather. We had a lovely week with plenty of sunshine. It’s been great to spend some time in the garden. I must say that my garden is starting to shape up nicely.
Today is quite a special day for me. It’s the 24th anniversary of the day that I landed in the UK. From this day forward, I will call it Lucie Landing Day. I posted my little story last year here. The last 24 years have been full of ups and downs. I have experienced quite a lot of loneliness but I’ve also had quite a lot of satisfaction in my role of mother to my one wonderful daughter, Sarah. I have experienced a sense of worth because my lovely friends have treated me with respect and kindness. And thru all the ups and downs my family back in Canada supported me especially during the hard times. I found a quote that struck me last week …
I think I promised that I would post a photo of my funky purple planter when it was planted up and in its’ resting place …..
When I first moved it and the sun was shining brightly, I thought perhaps the colour was over the top. However, now that it’s planted up and the plants are growing, I really like it. It’s cheerful. And I’m really pleased to have been able to breathe new life into something old.
My main hand sewing project over the past month or so has been my Patchwork of the Crosses. I have so far joined 9 blocks together giving me a real sense of what it will look like when it’s finished. I’m so pleased with the look which definitely makes it worth working on. All in all, it’s not difficult work. And I feel the repetitiveness is soothing and brings comfort. Familiar things always bring security.
So, my friends, please tell me what you have been working on. I haven’t been out and about much lately. I crave seeing other projects in progress which may bring me inspiration. I thrive on inspiration.
The last few weeks have been full of something and nothing. I’ve been working hard rebuilding my life. Slowly but surely things are falling into place. The house is feeling great and the garden even better. The university deadlines have been met. What a relief!!! Now it’s time to get out and about and enjoy the upcoming summer.
So, for this evening, this very happy and super ambitious quilt maker will be working on the Patchwork of the Crosses project. I hope you have a super cosy evening doing something wonderful. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching ♥ ♥
Hi Lucie
Glad your life is working for you!
I’m not able to do any stitching at the moment as I have broken my arm and am in a cast! It’s so frustrating as well as boring!! I just hope I won’t have any problem with my wrist when it’s healed.
Regards from a bored Jackie
Oh Jackie, how frustrating for you. While you’re out of commission you might spend sometime gathering up ideas for future projects. I’m not quite sure what I would do if I was injured and couldn’t stitch. I hope you heal quickly and well. Thanks for popping in today xx
I love your purple planter! You are making great progress on your Patchwork of the Crosses. At the moment I am prepping lots and lots of hexies for my Mrs Billings – I am determined to finish it, even if it now looks nothing like the original!!
Hi Anne, I’m thoroughly enjoying the slow progress of this project. I’m looking forward to seeing you’re modified Mrs Billings. I’ve only seen one finished example so far. I do admire anyone who manages to finish any version of it. Stick to it Anne, I’m sure your version will be lovely. Thanks for popping in today xx
I like the balance you seem to be achieving between your sewing and working on projects around your home and garden. I’ve got too many sewing projects on the go at the moment… But two are at the quilting and binding stage so I’m going to major on those this week ☺
Hi Allison, that sounds like a great plan of action. I look forward to seeing your finished projects. Keep up the great work. Thanks for popping in x
Lucie, Your Patchwork of the Crosses is beautiful. I finally have my fabric assembled to make one of my own but need to actually finish some projects before I dive in. I finished stitching my last hexagon in place this afternoon for my Morris Hexathon challenge quilt. Now I just need to assemble and quilt it.
Hi Sandy, I love hexies. They’re always my go-to choice of projects when I don’t know what to work on. Stick to your current hexies and I’m sure you’ll be done in no time and able to enjoy the fruits of your labour. Thanks for popping in today x
Happy Anniversary, Dear Lucie, maybyou have many more HAPPY ones. I have put my Luvy aside and benn workingbin The Insanity Quilt, and completing some long overdue UFOs.
Hi Sharon, I admire you for finishing up your long overdue UFOs. As for the Insanity quilt project, I’ve seen quite a few finished and they’re absolutely gorgeous. Finishing the Insanity Quilt will be a great achievement. Keep up the great work. Thank you for popping in x
Love that quote & your planter is gorgeous. Makes me want to paint something for the garden too, but it is winter here. Your Patchwork of the Crosses is shaping up beautifully. As for progress on anything here, I’m afraid it is slow going due to a painful crop of “chillblains”, worse than I’ve had before. Must be age creeping up, though they are trying to find out now if it is another cause, rather than just the cold weather. We’ll see! Have a good week & take care.
Hi Susan, it’s lovely to hear from you. I can tell you that it’s very satisfying to breathe new life into something old by painting it. And I am thoroughly enjoying working on my Patchwork of the Crosses. It’s slow going but very soothing.
I have never suffered from chillblains but I understand it’s rather uncomfortable. I hope they find a solution to this condition.
Thanks for popping in today x
Hi Lucie, glad you are able to mark a significant anniversary in such a positive way. You have such a good attitude. I look forward to seeing you projects
Hi Mary, I agree that my arrival in the UK is significant. My life here didn’t turn out anything like I thought it would but I stayed and kept trying. It’s not a perfect life by any means but I’m happy justbto wake up every morning. Thanks for popping in today x
Hi Luice , I’m still working on hexies….I have 6,648 done, only 3,000 more to go. I have a King King size bed which I love. The quilt is scrapy, all different fabric, not two alike . Everyone, in all 4 of my quilt guilds gives me fabric from there quilt making so it is wonderful….it is my ongoing project. But, I’m teaching free a the senior center cross stitch and hand quilting. My ladies group has double in size. It’s lis like having 20 grandmother. It will be a wonderful stitching summer here in Stanton, TN..
Nannett
Hi Nannett, it’s wonderful to hear that you haven’t given up on your hexies. It sounds to me like you’re 2/3 the way the hexie making process. And a scrappy quilt is my favourite. It always requires more effort to piece a scrappy quilt compared to piecing one for which you have purchased fresh fabrics. And 20 grandmothers sounds like an interesting experience. I bet you have lots of fun. Enjoy every minute. When you finish piecing your hexie quilt please send me a photo if you can. Hexies are my favourite. Thanks for popping in today x
