Hello my lovelies. I hope you’re all enjoying the arrival of spring. My little corner of the northeast of England received a generous dollop of sunshine recently. The sunshine has brought the Daffodils and Crocuses. The grass is finally growing and everyone seems to be in a relaxed state of mind. Spring really is here.
I have been busy working on UFOs and Quilts for Comfort projects. I’ve spent time making a plan to simplify life and slowly but surely implementing the changes. There are lots of ongoing lists. One of my lists is planning our summer holiday. I can see our brand new shiny life peeking out a little bit and starting to take shape.
I machine quilted a few quilt tops for Quilts for Comfort. These tops are donated by wonderful volunteers. And as I have the equipment I volunteer to finish them off by quilting and binding them. So far, I have finished five quilts which is exactly what I was hoping for.
I did a little more work on my Patchwork of the Crosses as well …..
It’s a project that I don’t work on too often but it’s the one I turn to when I can’t decide what else to work on. English Paper Piecing is the perfect armchair project. I do the prep cutting during the day and sit quietly in the evening wrapping the fabric patches around the card templates. The repetitive process is very soothing. And accompanied by a good old English murder mystery on TV, I can’t think of anything I would rather do of an evening.
I have spent some more time sorting and tidying and came across this little collection of felt. I have been thinking about what I can do with this little pile of felt which I have collected over the last few years. Every time I went to a craft show, I bought a little bundle of something soft and inviting. Now I am on track to make something different using a little of this collection. This is my chance to have a little play with a different medium. I have been wanting to learn a few new techniques. So, watch this space.
I have received a few messages of concern recently because I haven’t posted in a while. Rest assured that Sarah and I are perfectly fine. Life’s little challenges have sort of taken over life. We have been busy quietly coping with the challenges presented as they come along. The garden needs a little attention and I have been planning the work to be done inside my home as well. There’s a collection of paint charts and different colour paint has been applied to small patches of wall just to audition different colours. It’s definitely time for a change as we move on from our old life. If I’m honest, it’s quite an exciting time.
Now that spring is here, I’m finding inspiration everywhere. The fresh spring greens are luscious and the deep yellow of the daffodils are so appealing. We’ll soon see the Bluebells blooming. I think I should head over to the beach for a relaxing walk on the sand while the waves roll in. Spring is a brilliant time of year. It’s been another challenging but interesting winter but we seem to have survived once again. I received this little gift last week …..
So, for this evening, this very happy and super ambitious quilt maker will be work on my Patchwork of the Crosses project. I hope you all have super cosy evening doing something you truly enjoy doing. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching ♥ ♥
I was just thinking you hadn’t posted recently. Your Patchwork of the Crosses is lovely. I have been busy gathering fabric for my next attempt at that pattern after I finish some of the projects I have started!
Hi Sandy, I have really enjoyed working on this particular project. I not in any great hurry to get it finished but I love seeing the progress after a few days of work. Thanks for popping in today Sandy x
Hi Lucie
Check out Sue Spargo for ideas for what to do with your felt – there is also a Craftsy class where she shows you how to work lots of stitches. You are such a good person, not only doing all the quilting, but also the binding on the Quilts for Comfort.
Hope to see you soon, have a good weekend, Anne xx
Hi Anne, I’m quite tempted to buy the Sue Spargo Craftsy class. I think her work is beautiful. As for volunteering for Quilts for Comfort, well it’s a pleasure doing something useful. I have seen first hand the comfort that our quilts bring the kids receiving cancer treatment at the RVI and the Freeman hospitals. I hope to catch up with you when you get back from your holiday. Things are starting to move, quickly!!! Thanks for popping in today x
Glad to hear that you are keeping well and getting on with moving life forward.
Hi Chris, Slowly but surely we are moving forward. It’s been a long hard slog and it’s still going on but there is finally progress being made. The future is starting to look much more interesting. Thanks for popping in today x
I’ll admit to worrying that you were both OK, but we’ve had a few hiccups with my young brother & sometimes life gets in the way for us too, so was glad to see this post pop up this morning.
I see you’ve been on the big machine with all those charity finishes & your EPP project is gorgeous. You have the patience of a saint to do that. Can’t wait to see what you do with your felt bundles. I can hear Meredithe also telling you to check out Sue Spargo patterns too, as Anne has done.
Thanks for the update, have a lovely weekend & take care.
Hi Susan, the last few weeks have been filled with winding down. Sarah and I have spent sometime much needed time making plans for our summer. There are fun times ahead. And plenty of social engagements coming up. Thanks for popping in today x
Hi Lucie,
Glad to hear you are okay. Have missed your regular updates and information sharing xx
Hi Karen, I’m sorry to have been quiet for so long. Life sometimes gets in the way of the normal routine. I’m hoping to resume normal service soon. Thanks for popping in today x
Lucie, I’m really glad to see your blog updated.
May all the good luck in the world be yours and Sarah’s as you face
the future and your new happier life. I’m knitting a cardigan and I’m
calling it my criminal cardigan as I’m knitting whilst
watching Breaking Bad.
Beautiful work on the quilts for comfort.
Treat your self and Sarah to some really gooey chocolate Easter Eggs.
Hi Sheila, Rest assured Sarah and I are dinky doo dandy. We’re rather busy winding down and making plans for the summer. Our To-Do List is growing longer by the day. There’s lots of happy things coming up for us. Thanks for popping in today x
Wonderful pictures of beautiful quilts! The yellow in the top pictures gives me an idea. Thank you for sharing!
The yellow one is a soft and girly looking. It’s very calming. And now that it’s quilted it looks great. Thank you for your kind words x
Beautiful jo b with the quilting of the charity quilts. I hope the challenges you are facing resolve quickly.
Hi Mary, I’m pleased with the finished result of the charity quilts. And I’m sure they will bring comfort to a few young people in need of comfort. Thanks for popping in Mary x
Hi Lucie, so nice to “hear” from you again, I really missed your posts! I am glad life is improving – if slowly – for you and I think it shows just how positive you are when you are so busy but can still find time and love to put in work for other people with the Quilts for Comfort! Take care and keep up the great work!
Hi Ann, Quilts for Comfort is such a good cause. It’s fantastic doing something useful.
Life has definitely improved. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The Journey to Freedom is certainly worth it. Thanks for popping in today Ann x
Lucie, I thought I hadn’t kept up with your posts, and felt pretty bad about it. We’ve been dealing with issues with my mother here, so I haven’t been online much lately.
I’m happy to read that you’re taking life one step at a time-doing your changes and continuing to stitch.
I have Sue Spargo’s Craftsy class, and it is very inspiring. I think you’d enjoy it.
Hi Eileen, I totally understand where you’re coming from with having to deal with family matters. Life seems to take over you life. I am definitely starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. Life is getting so much more interesting now that I can make decisions without fear of reprisals. My hand stitching and sock knitting is what has seem me thru the difficult times over the past year. I will never give up being creative. Thanks for popping in and I hope your mother issues get sorted x
