Hello my lovelies. I hope you’ve all had a fabulous weekend. My weekend was busy mooching around the neighbourhood. I worked on UFOs, I packed some boxes for long term storage and took a trip to our local tip to get rid of well-worn household stuff and garden rubbish. It seems everyone decided to visit the tip at the same time!!!
The favourite part of my weekend was a real treat for me. As you know I have concentrated mainly on working on UFOs since the turn of the year but this week I decided to kick off one of two winter projects. I spent a little bit of time choosing fabric for my Lucy Boston Patchwork of the Crosses quilt. Once I had chosen the fabric I decided that it didn’t look right against the background fabric that I have already chosen and had my heart sent on. So it was back to the drawing board. My background fabric is a lovely light grey print. So I have finally decided on a colour scheme that includes pink, corals, reds, blues and teals. This project will be a good way of using up my stash. So here’s little peek at the first block in progress.
I’m using the English Paper Piecing method to piece this quilt top. And although these are elongated hexagons they are still hexagons. And hexagons are my absolute favourite. So it’s such a treat for me to have started working on this project sooner than winter.
Last week I promised that I would be back this week with some news about my Autumn Giveaway. So here’s the big announcement …
Yes folks, it’s time for my super-duper Autumn Giveaway. Here’s a little peek at what I have gathered so far for this special giveaway …..
These items have all been crafted by my fair hands. Some are UFOs, freemotion quilted practice pieces which I have turned into table topper-like quilts. And the sewing caddies were painted by my fair hands. The chunky wood hearts were purchased from The Crafts House and were originally intended to be used a tea light holders but I decided turn them into sewing caddies. I appreciate my own funky sewing caddy and I use it all the time as it keeps everything together on the table beside me. I will gather up a few more bits to add to this collection over the next couple of weeks.
So here are the rules to enter the giveaway ….. All I want is for you to comment and please, please, please include where you live. I don’t need your exact postal address, I just want to know city/county and country you live. It’s as simple as that! And ….. I am willing to post anywhere in the world, even to New Zealand, Singapore, West Africa, the United States and Canada. So don’t be shy. Click and send a simple comment and let’s see how many people in how many different countries we can reach out to. I plan on drawing three winning names on Friday September 30th. Good luck everyone.
I hope you all enjoyed watching Mr. Poldark last evening. Swoon ….. Now I have to wait a whole 6 days to see him again in the third episode, series 2 of Poldark. Swoon …..
So that’s my weekend report. I have been enjoying the end of the summer. I thought by now the temperature would be dipping at night but it’s not happening yet. In fact, the weather girl was saying just this morning, that the temperature might hit 30°C down south today! We rarely get such hot weather in my little corner of the northeast of England. Isn’t it too early to have an Indian summer?
So for this evening, this very happy and super ambitious quilt maker will be working on Lucy Boston POTC. Wahoo! I hope you have a super cosy evening doing something you truly enjoy. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching ♥ ♥
Hey Lucie! I am so annoyed!! I had written an email to you saturday morning and took photos for it and now can’t attach them! Grr, if only I could actually operate technology effectively! Now Ive given up! Sorry Ive not been about to say Hi, had a horrible time and there was no sunshine to share. But I’m swimming through all manner of sewing projects and picking up your comments as I go. I loved loved that applique with grey sashing, really gorgeous grey sets them appliques off. I was also delighted to see you stitching POcrosses. Hooray! I am a sucscriber with Sew and Quilt and am receiving the fabric kits every month… As you know I have a hard time choosing fabric, like you. So I thought that would make things easier. But it turns out its much less interesting when you don’t get to pick your fabrics! As the kits are Tana Lawn which I don’t have in my stash I can’t really substitute some. And now, the little boxes arrive dutifully each month and make a neat stack where I don’t touch them!! (I am hanging head in shame) But now you are on it… I am going to dig it out and get onto it. Looks like you glue basted – I have been using that method and found its very helpful to punch a hole in the card to aid removal with minimal frayed edges – but I bet you know that anyway. Im trying to stitch up an applique cushion for Max for Uni, this Saturday! Better get the kleenex in. Think next week may be a heavy one. Or maybe I’ll be cartwheeling down the lane at not being able to do any more prep for Uni because he will be gone! (Probably not, cartwheeling days never existed and nor will they!) Giveaway looks great, love your little hearts with the spool pin. Hope you get lots of entries from all around the world. Well I better be off, ponder Poldark and then get back on with worrying about Uni! Best, best wishes, Lou 🙂 xx
Hi Lou, It seems there are a lot more of us Lucy Boston fans than I realised. I thought I was joining the party very late! I must admit I am enjoying the whole process of working on Lucy’s elongated hexagons, right from tracing the cutting template right thru to joining the actual hexagons. There’s something soothing about EPP. I am not using the glued method. I know there’s a lot of sewing involved but I’m quite happy doing it that way.
I sympathise with about having to see your Max off to uni this weekend. It will be lonely for a while but I promise that you can fill the hours with some interesting creative work. I’m going to learn to draw! That’s something I’ve always wanted to do. If you’re anything like me you won’t be doing cartwheels down the lane. You just need to make the best of a sad situation. Focus of being kind to yourself for a while.
Lou I have entered you into the giveaway draw. Enjoy working on your applique cushion for Max and while you do that you can ponder Mr. Poldark. Swoon…
oooh you have been busy making little gifts! I’ll try my luck again, you never know.
I live in the Lyon area, France.
Hi Claire, It’s always nice to hear from you. I have entered you into the giveaway. Good luck x

I love the colours in your new hexagon project. There is something really satisfying about completing a small piece of EPP that looks perfect! It always amazes me because I started quilting using the Quilt In A Day books and used to create a large number of blocks in a few hours, now I am totally happy with a fancy pieced 5 inch piece of patchwork. Enjoy the nice weather while it lasts. 🙂
Hi Sandy, after making plenty of quilts in a hurry for many years, I find it more satisfying to take my time and enjoy the process nowadays. The quiet gentle are of quilt making should be savoured. I have entered you in the giveaway draw. Good luck and thank you for popping in this evening x

Hi Lucie, thanks so much for offering us another of your lovely giveaways. I always follow your blog and admire you for remaining so positive when life has not been at its best. Hi Sandra, I would love to meet Aidan Turner. He’s probably nothing like his character, Mr. Poldark, in real life. I have entered you into my giveaway draw. Good luck and thanks for popping in today x
Loving the wooden heart craft caddies – what a fab idea 😊 I love winter nights with English paper piecing – sitting snuggled up on the couch. Even better when Poldark is on tv. Love Sunday nights. I can still remember the original Poldark – loved it then too!

I love the little craft caddies! I too love hexies and am currently making a bed runner for my daughter who lives in Australia. I have previously made her a quilt of Celtic rings and made her promise that it wouldn’t be used for the dog but …..

Happy days to you and Sarah
Gayle – Australia
Hi Gayle, no I have not read any of the Poldark books. The reason I’m so keen on the Poldark series is that the current Ross Poldark character is played by the very attractive Aidan Turner. Swoon….. It’s lovely to hear from you Gayle. I have entered you into my giveaway draw. Good luck and thank for popping in x
Hi Lucie,
Oh those sewing caddies look so gorgeous and practical, I’m always loosing my cotton and Sissors, which I’m usually sitting on!

Bye for now
Julie from Keyworth in Nottinghamshire, England.
Hi Julie, I have had occasion to sit on scissors once or twice. So a caddy is a useful thing to have, not to mention decorative. I’m glad you’re a hexie kindred spirit. I’m from The Scottish Borders, east coast, so don’t expect to be in with a chance, but I’m just happy to let you know how much I look forward to your updates and brilliant pictures of your work.
Thank you for sharing, Ruth
Hi Ruthie, It’s lovely to hear from you. I never considered myself to be as upbeat as others see me! However, the public is always the best judge of a person’s disposition. I do try to be happy because everyone needs a happy in their lives, even me. I have entered you into my giveaway draw. Good luck and thanks for popping in x
Hi Lucie, love the little sewing boxes. I’m only hand sewing at the moment because my flat is on the market and I need to keep it spotless for viewings. I’m working on 4″ hexagons and I’m enjoying seeing my quilt come together. I’m thinking I might try smaller ones next time – yikes! I like the idea of the elongated hexie, so I’ll be popping over to Mr Google to check out Lucy Boston. That’s all for now from a very sunny Aylesbury.
Hi Fran, you’re a hexie girl after my own heart. I love hexies in all forms. I hope your flat gets snapped up soon so you can make a bit of mess with your sewing machine. I have entered you into my giveaway draw. Good luck and thanks for popping in today x
Carole
Hi Lucy, I am enjoying following your blog and am impressed by your determination to finish those UFO’s! I am working on a EPP quilt at the moment, a daisy chain design for my youngest granddaughter, and really enjoying it.Ido most of my stitching laying down on my bed ( a chronic back condition) so one of your little caddies would be great, as quite often the scissors or the odd pin goes astray! I haven’t watched the newest Poldark series, as (sadly) I am old enough to remember the original one with Robin Ellis ,an d he will always be Ross to me. I am in Hertfordshire and melting today!
Hi Carole, I’m glad to read that your chronic back condition hasn’t deterred you from quilt making. Quilt making is a lovely quiet relaxing pursuit that keeps your mind occupied. As for Poldark, well I’ve never seen the original series. I wonder if you can get it as a box set??? If it’s any consolation, it’s melting hot here today as well. I have entered you into my giveaway draw. Good luck and thanks for popping in today x

Hi Lucie, I love seeing what you are doing as you pop in and out with your positive, sweet, disposition….It is a breath of fresh air in this fast paced area of Central Florida…I live just outside of Orlando, too close to the Mouse House !!! As I read your calming posts, I long for the countryside but at 71 there will not be any move !! It has been very hot for 3 months with the temperatures in the upper 90s every day….I have also been refacing my kitchen cabinets, which is a daunting job.. Too much work at my age..I look over at my sewing machine longingly each day….I finally finished the outside and the insides will only take me a couple of days…Then, finally, I can enjoy my sewing and baking…But until then I can read about one happy, little, quilter, in a land far, far away….I love your giveaway….Have a sweet day !!!
Hi Barbara, what a super comment! I’m going to tell you a little secret Barbara … my maiden name is Thibeault spelled in the same way as yours!!! I hope you’ll soon be zooming along on your sewing machine again. Here in England we rarely enjoy the temperatures you have been experiencing.
