Can you believe it? It’s the first of March already. I’m still waiting for the snow! I don’t suppose we’ll get any now. It will soon be time for me to go visit the Beach Huts I love so much and have fish & chips. The sun has been shining so brightly and the temperatures are quite warm for this time of year. My feet are really itching now. I want to get out and mooch about. I want to do new things and I want to meet new people. Isn’t spring grand!
Today’s been a day of catching up. The kitchen cupboards were bare so I sorted that by hitting the supermarket. I did a little work on my Dresden Plate project. Here are couple of progress photos.
I’m always chirping on about the use of flexi curve rulers. Well here is one perfect example of how and for what to use my well loved flexi curve ruler.
Once you have chosen a pleasing shape, pencil the shape onto your background fabric and voila you have a guideline for the vine for each corner. Now I pin the bias strips to the background using the guideline and tack them in place. Now I like to tack the bias strips down using needle and thread because the pins are a pain to sew fine stitches around. Later I will sew them down using very fine stitches and silk thread. The silk thread does a really good job. I will be adding simple flowers of some sort and possibly yo-yos for the flower centres eventually. I will not add the Yo-yos until the project has been quilted because it’s much easier to quilt before the final embellishments are added. Perhaps I will use my Accuquilt GO! Fabric Cutter for the flowers. It seems a long time since I used it now.
So that was my day. I wish all my catch up days were as relaxing. So for this evening, this happy longarm quilter will be appliquéing the vines onto the corners of my Dresden Plate project. I love a little bit of fine stitching of an evening. Whatever you may be doing, I hope it puts you in the mood for spring. Until you read me again,
Happy stitching.
